Helping moms and families adjust to parenthood

Everyone talks about the joys of bringing a new baby into the family. You are often met with congratulations and belly touches. People are excited and tell you, “You are glowing!” But, you don’t see the glow and can’t figure out why you aren’t as excited. Maybe getting out of bed has become difficult, you feel tired all the time, or your anxiety is triggered easily. Maybe you are irritable with your friends and family. Maybe you snap at your spouse even though you know they are just trying to help. Then after the baby comes you are sent home from the hospital with this little life for which you are suddenly totally responsible for. You are overwhelmed, scared, and sad. Everyone tells you to enjoy this time because it goes fast but you just can’t seem to.

The truth is pregnancy and postpartum can be hard. You have new hormones, your body is changing, and you are entering a new phase of life. Not to mention you are growing a whole new human! Whether you are a 1st or 3rd time mom, you probably have a lot of questions about what the future may hold. You might be feeling:

·       Anxious

·       Nervous

·       Unsure

·       Overwhelmed

·      Depressed

·      Grumpy

·       Not yourself

·       Irritable with family and friends

·       Obsessive compulsive disorder symptoms

·      Psychosis

This time can be difficult for dads too. Did you know, dads can experience postpartum depression as well?! They are seeing their partner experience pregnancy and birth which can leave them feeling helpless. They are entering this new phase of life as well, learning the rhythm of the baby, and addressing their own fear of becoming a parent. As joyous as bringing a baby into the family can be, it can also be a great stressor. That’s why WellNest is here to support families through this transition. Through therapy, we tailor our approach to each family’s needs. We will walk alongside you as you navigate this exciting and frightening time.
